Most of their vegetables can be traced to Mike and Pam's organic farm in Pickering and the décor is the work of local artists. 'Cuddly' doesn't begin to describe this place.

I HEARTILY agree with the excellent and praiseworthy write-up by the Scarborough Evening News Cafe Tasters of the Nutmeg Vegetarian café, near the police station in Victoria Road.

So, come on Scarborough meat eaters, who think vegetarians live on nut roast and salads, try the world-class cuisine of the Nutmeg café. The menu changes daily and is local, organic, fairly traded, always in season and cooked by Rob to perfection, being full of flavour and imaginatively displayed.

It is wholesome, plentiful and unbeatable value and the service is efficient and warmly welcoming.

The Nutmeg Cafe is a hidden gem of North Yorkshire and well worth a visit.

Veggie Places Vegetarian café in Scarborough

This is one of Scarborough's hidden gems. Just a short walk from the town centre it is well worth a visit. Although specialising in home-cooked food for veggies/vegans I've also taken friends along who are normally meat-eaters and they've been amazed at the variety of wonderful dishes available. The restaurant is quite basic, the food is most definitely not! Efficient and friendly service whilst prices are very reasonable. The Nutmeg offers good, healthy, wholesome foods using most fresh, locally-sourced produce. The soup with wholemeal roll is virtually a meal in itself. The sweets (if you manage to stay the course) are to die for! Roy B

We found the service at Nutmeg Cafe really friendly and helpful. It took a little while to get our meal but it was worth the wait. The fennel and red rice salad and the lentil soup we had were both really tasty and the Tunisian orange cake was simply gorgeous! Anna P

"Lovely food and service" The food here is beautiful. When I visited I had a Greek style salad which sounds simple enough but was very tasty and the chosen ingredients were very nice. My non vegetarian friend also enjoyed his food and the service was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend!

"Meg-nificent" >A happy little cafe in delightful Scarborough serving good food at very reasonable prices indeed. Just around the corner from the train station and Stephen Joseph Theatre. Seating for around 20, local artists' paintings for sale on the walls as well as cards for different occasions. The specials menu is hand written and looks to change regularly, there is always one or two vegan items. We had aubergine lasagne and chick pea and apricot filo parcels served with salad and coriander couscous (vegan). There is an extensive range of hot drinks as well as wine that must be served with food. I'll definitely be back here, it was a great afternoon topped off with a slice of cake most of which are vegan.

Veggie Heaven Nutmeg café feedback on Veggie Heaven

Ray V Visited the Nutmeg Cafe last week. We have a dog and therefore needed some outside space to eat. The owner said she would be happy to provide a table in the back yard for us if we give a days notice - very happy with this positive response. We decided to have a take-away and what fabulous vegan food! A mouth watering tofu 'steak' served with a green salad. To follow two large pieces of vegan chocolate and coffee cake. As it was a take-away the owner supplied us with cuttlery, which we returned. To sum up: the staff: very friendly and helpful: Quality of food: excellent and good selection, Atmosphere: relaxing and warm: Price guide: very reasonable. We would definately recommend a visit to this cafe when in Scarborough!!

Nutmeg - a new vegetarian cafe in Scarborough A great little veggie café has opened in the upper part of Victoria Road. The food's excellent and very reasonably priced, and the couple who run it, Rob and Elaine, are very friendly and welcoming! The accent is on fairly traded, locally produced, organic food. Scarborough needs more of this kind of thing so please support them.
